2618 Aluminum Alloy Forged Pistons 2618 forged pistons are a low silicon based material. They expand and contact much more than their 4032 siblings. In most cases these pistons are used in extreme racing applications like NASCAR and NHRA. 2618 Pistons require a greater piston to bore clearance due to their tendency to expand when heating up.

Piston Alloy Characteristics The main difference with a 2618 alloy, as represented with the JE race piston line, is its very low silicon content. With that said 4032 forged pistons can take way more abuse then 10-15. My thoughts were the material is better and designed to last longer than a stock piston & 2618 forging.

Jun 20, 2017 · Many OEM's have been using 2618 for quite some time. Certainly the high horsepower stuff. The forgings, piston and skirt designs, machining tolerances have all changed since the 80's. There is really no reason to not use it. Piston to wall clearances on a well made 2618 boxed slug aren't much different than a 4032 slug.
